As shown above, a mental map is a map in someones mind that groups concepts, ideas, and knowledge about a certain place or thing in various groupings. Mental maps can also contain images of certain areas where someone has a pre-conceived notion about that specific location and that notion can either be positive, negative or neutral. For example, someone from South Florida might have a mental image of a place like Boca Raton as a very rich and affluent area. There is no real trend or pattern in a mental map since everyone conceives thoughts and biases differently. For example, the person sitting next to you in class does not have the same thoughts on every subject as you and is going through completely different things in their life which will lead to both of you having different mental maps. There is almost no chance of you and someone else having the same mental map. This is one of the unique features of a mental map, they are almost impossible to replicate from one person to another.
